Black Widow (2021)

Updated Release Date: May 7, 2021

Status: In post-production

Black Widow is the first film of Phase 4 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Initially, it was the only Marvel upcoming movie in 2020, however, due to Covid 19 outbreak, this Marvel movie release date was reshuffled from May 1, 2020 to May 7, 2021 when the pandemic may be under control.

The upcoming Marvel movies 2020 trailers are not fully released as only Black Widow and Eternal had published its official trailers. Following Marvel's "superspy" tradition, before the movie is released, we won't be spoiled too much about the plot. However, due to the official trailer of the film, we know that Black Widow will be set between the events in Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, in which Natasha Romanoff has to face her mysterious past. As the film's main logline emphasizes that Black Widow will face "the darker parts of her ledger when a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past arises. Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long…"

With Scarlett Johansson as our beloved Black Widow, Florence Pugh and David Harbour as her acting partners, the movie is promised to be a big hit for the beginning of Marvel movies next phase, especially under the direction of a talented director like Cate Shortland.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)

Updated Release Date: July 9, 2021

Status: Filming

Shang-Chi, the first-ever Asian leading character in the MCU and the second hero appearing in the Phase 4 after Black Widow. This movie is unique due to its pure Asian "spirit". The new Marvel movie will feature some of the best Asian actors/actresses such as Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Tony Leung (The Mandarin), Awkwafina (unknown)...etc. The screenwriter of the film is Dave Callaham - a half Chinese and half American. And so is Daniel Cretton, the one who is responsible for this Marvel new release movie.

Although the plotline of the movie is under wraps and this Marvel upcoming movie trailer has not been released yet, it's likely that the movie will get an insight into the origins of both superhero Shang-Chi and the villain The Madarine with his 10 powerful rings.

The release date of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been shifted twice. At first, the film was expected to be on big screen on May 7, 2021 but just like Black Widow, because of Coronavirus, the film was pushed back to July 9, 2021.

Eternals (2021)

Updated Release Date: November 5, 2021

Status: In post production

One of the next Marvel movies to come out in 2021 is Eternal. This is among the most potential projects in phase 4 of the MCU, especially with the talented and famous cast, namely Angelina Jolie as Thema, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kit Harrington as the Black Knight...etc. Not to forget director Chloe Zhao, the one behind the success of award-winning films such as The Rider or Nomadland.

Like other Marvel upcoming movies on this list, the main plot of the movie is safe-guarded. What we know is that the film will focus on a group of nearly immortal superheroes living on a strange planet and is based on Jack Kirby's comic series, taking place after the main events in Avenger: Endgames.

Eternals had completed its filming and on post-production, however, this movie is just another victim of Covid 19 pandemic as the release date was shuffled from November 2020 to November 5, 2021.

Untitled Spider-Man: Far From Home sequel (2021)

After countless conflicts and false negotiations, Sony and Marvel finally reached a consensus agreement about Spider-Man. In other words, Tom Holland's Peter Parker will stay in the MCU with his third film being in development.

The next Spider-Man hasn't even had its own title and poster yet, therefore, it's obvious that the main storyline of this Marvel upcoming movie remains unknown to fans. On the other hand, it's certain that Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are back as screenplay writers, and so as John Watts as the film's director. Familiar names like Tom Holland and Zendaya are guaranteed to appear in this movie, too.

This Marvel upcoming movie release date was shifted to the later half of December as actor Tom Holland will be busy with his "Uncharted" project and of course,... Coronavirus.

After the success with Thor: Ragnarok, director Taika Waititi is coming back to write and direct the fourth film about our God of Thunder - Thor. Chris Hemsworth as Thor is irreplaceable as ever and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie - The King of Asgard, will be an essential part in the storyline of Thor: Love and Thunder. Christian Bale is expected to join the cast, though his potential character is not yet revealed.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)

Updated Release Date: March 25, 2022

Status: In pre-production

We will end the Marvel upcoming movies timeline by a unique movie. At the San Diego Comic-Con 2019, it was confirmed that director Scott Derrickson and actor Benedict Cumberbatch - two most important factors behind the success of Doctor Strange, would make a comeback in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, or Doctor Strange 2 for short. However, due to "creative issue", Derrickson dropped out of his position and Sam Raimi was chosen to replace his place.

Doctor Strange 2 is promised to be totally different among Marvel upcoming movies of phase 4 due to its possibility of horror elements appearing in this movie.

Other familiar names from the first film like Rachel McAdam and Benedict Wong are likely to return. It's also confirmed that Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch will feature in this upcoming Marvel movie.

Initially, the film was planned to be released in November 2021, but since the filming was delayed due to the pandemic, the release schedule was already pushed back to March 25, 2022.
